Movement Classes Coming Soon to the Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre

The Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre is preparing to expand its healing programs by introducing supportive movement classes at its new movement space.

The purpose-designed studio is a welcoming, empowering environment where women can rebuild strength, both physical and emotional, through safe, guided movement and shared activities.

The classes will focus on gentle coordination activities and guided exercises that encourage participants to explore how their bodies want to move, without pressure or expectation, rather than fitness or performance.

“These classes are about enjoyment,” Jean Alvisse, Movement and Mobility Coach at the Centre, said.

“There’s nothing to get right and nothing you have to keep up with. This is an opportunity to move in a way that works for you.”

The studio includes specialised equipment to support balance, coordination and strength, such as a balance beam, sensory mats, a Pilates reformer and resistance tools.

There are also plans to run a beginner’s martial arts class.

Ms Alvisse said the space is intended to be warm, inclusive and supportive.

“We’re always looking for gentle and inclusive ways women can reconnect with themselves,” she said.

“This offers a welcoming space where participants can simply show up and take part, without pressure.”

The movement classes will be free for Centre clients, removing financial barriers to participation.

Dates and times for the new classes will be announced soon, with registration details to follow.
