The Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre is seeking an Aboriginal Partnerships and Community Engagement Coordinator to help strengthen connections with Aboriginal women, families and communities across the Illawarra and ensure Aboriginal voices, knowledge and perspectives continue to shape the Centre’s services and future direction.
The Aboriginal Identified position has been created as the Centre continues to grow its services for women who have experienced domestic, family and sexual violence.
The role will focus on building and maintaining strong connections with Aboriginal women, Elders, organisations and community leaders, while helping ensure Aboriginal perspectives are reflected across the Centre’s work.
The Centre’s CEO, Elise Phillips, said the position would play an important role in helping the Centre stay connected to the communities it serves.
“Strong relationships with the community are central to everything we do at the Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre,” Ms Phillips said.
“This role will help us listen, learn and work in partnership to ensure our services are informed by community knowledge and guided by principles of self-determination.”

Working closely with the Head of Impact, Lived Expertise and Community Engagement, the successful applicant will support the implementation of the Centre’s Community Engagement Strategy.
Responsibilities include facilitating community consultation, promoting awareness of the Centre’s services, representing the organisation at community events and forums, and identifying opportunities to strengthen partnerships across the region.
The role will also support staff in strengthening culturally safe and responsive practices and help ensure that services remain accessible and relevant to Aboriginal women and communities.
The Centre is seeking an Aboriginal woman with strong community connections, experience building relationships with a range of stakeholders, and a commitment to community-led approaches.
Candidates may come from backgrounds including community engagement, Aboriginal health, education, advocacy, women’s services or community development.
