Introducing our new Yoga classes in partnership with the Yoga Foundation

We are excited to announce the launch of our new trauma-sensitive Yoga classes at the Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre, beginning Friday, May 30.

These free weekly sessions will run every Friday at our Centre in Shellharbour from 1pm to 2pm for eight weeks.

We’ve partnered with the Yoga Foundation who deliver specialised yoga programs to people impacted by mental health issues, trauma and adversity on an initial 8-week program.

Yoga can be a powerful tool for reconnecting with your body, calming the nervous system, and building inner strength.

The classes aim to provide women with a safe and supportive space on their healing journey. Research shows Yoga can help those affected by trauma regain a sense of control and can lead to better decision-making.

They incorporate gentle movement, breathwork, and grounding techniques that honour each participant’s pace and comfort level.

Yoga Foundation instructor, Beck, is experienced in trauma-sensitive yoga and committed to creating a welcoming, non-judgmental environment.

She has a Master of Social Work and a Graduate Diploma in Psychology allowing her to integrate psychological insight with body-based practices.

No prior yoga experience is needed, and modifications will be available for all bodies and abilities. Mats and equipment are provided, and participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing.

Spaces are limited to maintain a quiet, nurturing atmosphere, so we encourage you to register early.

To register or learn more, please contact the Centre on 4243 9800.
