Launching our new Clay Play Group at Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre

Looking for a gentle, creative outlet where you can unwind, connect, and just breathe?

The Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre is launching Clay Play – a warm, welcoming, no-pressure group held once a month for women who are experiencing or have previously experienced domestic, family and/or sexual violence.

This isn’t an art class – it’s a space to relax and explore, and maybe also to make a pretty plate or new cup.

Working with clay is deeply calming and therapeutic. As counsellor Roseanne says, “Touching clay is like taking a little mini holiday. It interrupts the noise of daily life and gives your brain a much-needed break.”

The benefits of working with clay go beyond creativity. It can ease stress, support emotional release, enhance self-awareness, and improve motor skills. Clay’s smooth, grounding texture has its own calming magic, helping you reconnect with your body, mind, and emotions.

Whether you’re sculpting, shaping, or simply enjoying the feel of clay in your hands, you’ll be guided and supported every step of the way. All tools and materials are provided.

Clay Play is one of many groups and services at the Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre. The Centre recently announced it had partnered with the Yoga Foundation to provide an eight-week trauma-sensitive class.

The Centre also provides a self-care group, mind, body and connection group, walking group and music group, among other services
