Presenting the groundbreaking documentary Such a Resounding Silence

A powerful and thought-provoking documentary by acclaimed French actress Emmanuelle Béart will be shown at the Gala Cinema in Warrawong on Tuesday, May 27.

The CorriLee Foundation, in partnership with the Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre and supported by Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson, is presenting the screening of Such a Resounding Silence.

Béart, known for her role as Clare in Mission Impossible, co-directed the film with Anastasia Mikova, using both her own experience and the voices of other survivors to confront the harrowing, often-hidden reality of intrafamilial childhood sexual abuse or incest.

Such a Resounding Silence challenges the stigma and societal silence that perpetuates the trauma of incest.

The documentary highlights the lifelong impact of shame, guilt, and betrayal experienced by survivors through raw first-person narratives, symbolic animation, and evocative imagery.

By addressing these painful truths, Béart aims to dismantle the silence that allows these crimes to persist and encourages a broader conversation supporting survivors on their healing journey.

The screening will be followed by a panel facilitated by journalist Antoinette Lattouf and including Jess Hill, Journalist; Melissa Holmes, CEO of Stepping Out; Malika Reese, Wollongong Citizen of the Year 2025; and Dr Karen Williams, Head of Programs, Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre.

The event will also hear from Zoe Carides and Tanya Lee from the No Laughing Matter podcast series.

The screening aims to break down barriers and encourage open conversations about the lifelong trauma caused by silence and seeks to engage those willing to confront this pervasive issue and support survivors on their journey toward healing.
