Older women (aged 55+) across the Illawarra are invited to attend a special Wellbeing Day hosted by the Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre and supported by the Older Women’s Network.
The free event on Thursday, May 22, at the Centre in Shellharbour is a chance for older women to tour the Centre and learn more about our services.
It is also an opportunity to share experiences and help shape the future of the recovery and healing recovery services at the Centre.
This event combines gentle activities, meaningful conversations, and a nourishing lunch to put older women’s voices at the heart of change.
The day’s program includes mindfulness and movement sessions, group discussions to explore barriers to healing, and reflective workshops like “Body Mapping” and “Changing Times.”
Participants will explore where they hold strength and how healing can occur over time.
CEO Maree Kerr emphasised the importance of the event, “It’s a great day, an opportunity to see the Centre, meet new people and participate in important information gathering. The focus is because we want to understand better how to support older women to recover and heal.”
There is a particular interest in hearing directly from older women about their experiences and needs Dr Karen Williams, Head of Programs at the Centre explained: “There’s very little research or information about how they might have experienced trauma or processed it, or what might work best for them. This is a crucial step toward filling that gap.”
Women are invited to attend for the morning or the whole day.
The morning session starts at 10am and includes mindfulness and movement workshops, a Putting Things in Context session, and lunch.
The afternoon activities start at 1.15pm and include sessions on Changing Times, Body Mapping, and an engaging workshop exploring what support older Women need in the Illawarra before concluding at 3.30pm.
The event promises to be both restorative and empowering, offering older women the chance to connect, share, and shape services that are responsive to their unique needs.
Attendees are encouraged to RSVP by calling the Centre at 4243 9800 or emailing info@womenstrc.com.au.
